In New Zealand in the 1970s and 80s, radical feminists tried what many saw as an anti-social experiment in an attempt to find out. What their world could look like if they could crush patriarchy and create a world without men. Around New Zealand – mostly lesbian feminists – set up Separatist houses and communities. They banned men and contact with them and set about the difficult task of negotiating a new female world order. Hosted by former separatist Anne Speir, this podcast is an inside look at the separatist movement and reveals the road they paved for modern feminism and women in the 21st century in New Zealand.
